Out With the Old - Week 2

Scriptures used: Philippians 3:12-14; 1 Corinthians 15:9-10; Acts 26; Luke 22:61-62; 1 Corinthians 9:24; Psalm 42:5; Lamentations 3:19-23
Passages Referenced: John 21:15-17; Hebrews 12:1-2

  • Pay attention to what you value because your values affect your decisions. If your life needs to change, let your values be centered in Christ and you'll see your decisions change.

  • The past doesn’t stay in the past and that makes it hard to forget what’s in the past and press on, but we can press on.

  • If you can’t let go of the past, you can’t grab ahold of what God has for you next.

  • It's a problem when we don’t help people get through their past and get through their regret because we constantly remind them of it.

  • A perfect past is not a qualification for God’s call. The qualification of God’s call is the presence of Christ in your life. God uses imperfect people to impact his world through his perfect grace every day.

  • Jesus broke the power that holds open the door of our past and our sin when he died on the cross.

  • Be purposeful and throw out anything that distracts you. Choose discipline over regret.

  • You can look back and think about the bad, or you can look back and see God's faithfulness.

  • God’s grace is bigger than your past. You are fully known and yet still fully loved by God.

Reflect or meet with someone to discuss:

  • Would you say your biggest regrets are around actions you took or actions you didn't take? Share some of your biggest regrets if you are comfortable to do so.

  • How has holding on to past regrets affected you in the present and even going forward into the future?

  • What next step can you take to let go of your regrets? Who do you trust that you could ask for support or encouragement?

Regret is something we all face at one time or another because we all make mistakes. How do we work through that regret when the pain is deep? This plan will explore ways we can acknowledge our regrets and move on from them. We don't have to be stuck, and if submitted to God, we can come out better on the other side of it.
