Out With the Old - Week 1

Sharable notes for the January 7, 2024 message. You can post these notes on your social platform!

Scriptures used: Luke 5:35-39; Ezekiel 36:26-27; Matthew 13:52; Colossians 3:9-10; Ephesians 4:22-23; 2 Corinthians 5:17

  • God does not just mend our hearts; he gives us brand new ones.

  • Instead of us producing works that lead to salvation, we instead have faith in Christ that leads to salvation that produces good works.

  • When we receive the new wine of the gospel carried in a new wineskin of grace we can be clothed in a new outfit of righteousness not one patched up by law and ritualistic ceremonies.

  • There is a new nature within us, within our being. We are not, in essence or nature, the same. We are a new creation.

  • It’s only in our new nature that we can contain the new growth, good fruit, character, healing, and maturity our Heavenly Father has for each us.

  • Pride must give place to humility; carelessness to stewardship; worldliness to holiness; unbelief to faith.

  • God can give us new methods to carry a never ending message.

  • We don’t want to be a place that looks different than our community, we want to be a place that represents our community, transformed by the grace of Christ.

  • We want to take every new opportunity to carry forth this never ending message we have been given through Jesus Christ.

  • We cannot take in his new nature if we hold on to our old one.

Reflect or meet with someone to discuss:

  • How would you say you handle change? How easy is it for you to let go of things? How easy it is for you to embrace new things?

  • Has there ever been something you've tried to hold onto that God wanted you to let go of, or is there something now?

  • Why is it so hard to let go of old things in order to embrace the new things God wants for us?

  • What’s something new that God wants you to do, or you to embrace this year?
