Episode 12

Tim Elmore wrote a great book called “The Eight Paradoxes of Great Leadership.” In it he looks at different qualities that could seem to be contradictory, but actually help balance each other. They are also qualities that every great leader needs in their life. I encourage you to pick up a copy to see how he describes them in detail, and the examples of leaders who illustrate these qualities well.

The seventh paradox he mentions is that uncommon leaders model both high standards and gracious forgiveness. Watch the video for a quick explanation and then consider these questions:

  • Do you have high standards for yourself and those who work with you, or do you find yourself being satisfied with good enough?

  • What do you think plays into those mindsets?

  • How quick are you to forgive mistakes/failures from those who work/serve with you?

  • What kind of mistakes/failures are “easier” to forgive?

  • How can you begin to establish high standards while at the same time be gracious to forgive?
