Episode 10

Tim Elmore wrote a great book called “The Eight Paradoxes of Great Leadership.” In it he looks at different qualities that could seem to be contradictory, but actually help balance each other. They are also qualities that every great leader needs in their life. I encourage you to pick up a copy to see how he describes them in detail, and the examples of leaders who illustrate these qualities well.

The fifth paradox he mentions is being personable while also being inherently collective. Watch the video for a quick explanation and then consider these questions:

  • Do you consider yourself to be personable and relatable?

  • Which is a bigger problem for you - becoming so empathetic with others and trying to help others that you get distracted from your overall goals and mission or being so focused on your overall goals and mission that you forget about the people?

  • When it comes to leading where do you feel like you shine the most - with a smaller team of people or leading a larger group or organization?

  • How can we effectively lead people individually while also leading people corporately?
