1 Corinthians
Not long after the resurrection of Christ, Paul was on his second missionary journey and planted a church in the area of Corinth. Around 53AD, about 20 years after the resurrection, we have a letter that Paul sent back to the church there addressing issues and questions they had. This is the first recorded letter we have of Paul back to the church. The issues and questions Paul addresses are very relevant still for us today.

Paul begins his letter to the Corinthians reminding them that they are to live differently from the world, and handle their differences differently than the world does. The body of Christ is a community together, and God is able to sustain us through it all.

In a world that often elevates personalities, preferences, and human wisdom, Paul calls the church back to what matters most: Jesus Christ. Sure there are personalities we are drawn to, wisdom we walk in, and preferences we have, but those things must all be surrendered at the foot of the cross. The church is meant to be united around Jesus Christ and His gospel, not divided by personalities, preferences, opinions, or personal agendas.

What does healthy Christian leadership look like? In 1 Corinthians 4, Paul challenges us to see leadership not as a position of power, but as an opportunity to serve and faithfully steward what God has entrusted to us. This week we explore church leadership, how we all honor spiritual leadership, handle criticism, use our influence well, and find our identity in Christ rather than performance, success, or the opinions of others.
