Scriptures used: Jude 1:22-23; Jeremiah 20:7-9,11; Matthew 11:2-6; Luke 1:1-4; John 20:19-29
Passages referenced: Ephesians 6:16; 1 Corinthians 13:12; Hebrews 11:1; John 7:5; Psalm 10; 13; 1 Corinthians 15

  • Some people leave the church and walk away from faith in Christ not because God isn’t good, but because they have questions and don’t feel safe asking them. The church and at home, should be the safest places in the world to ask questions.

  • "Doubt is not always a sign that a man is wrong. It may be a sign that he's thinking.” Oswald Chambers

  • The enemy wants to use criticism to take you from confidence to cynicism.

  • The enemy wants to see your doubts drive you away from God. Here’s the good news though. God can use your doubts to draw you closer to Him.

  • Just because God doesn’t respond to your situation the way you want God to respond to your situation, it doesn’t mean He’s not God.

  • “When I began digging around at my childhood beliefs, you could say I began and ended with the resurrection. If Jesus rose from the dead—not just spiritually or allegorically, but physically—everything must change. All religions must bow to Christ. Time, nature, belief—they must all show their respect.” Wade Bearden

Reflect or meet with someone to discuss:

  • Have you had doubts or questions about the Christian faith before? Where have you typically taken your questions?

  • If you've brought your questions to the church, what's been the response?

  • How can you help to make the church and your home a safe place to discuss questions about the faith?

  • How does the resurrection being a real event that sparked the movement of Christianity impact your faith and your doubts?

What are we supposed to do when we aren’t sure what to believe? Or how do we move forward when we’ve been hurt by people who were supposed to reflect God? In a culture wrestling with deconstruction, it’s okay to doubt.
