Scriptures used: Genesis 12:1-5; 13:14-17; 15:1-18; Joshua 24:2; Romans 4:17, 20-21; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Luke 22:19-20; Revelation 7:9-10
Passages referenced: Genesis 11-17

  • What God builds through us is greater than anything we try to build on our own apart from God.

  • Faith is an internal conviction that leads to an external action.

  • Our faith is only as good as the object in which our faith is placed.

  • Waiting is not punishment it’s preparation.

  • Put your faith in Christ and let that faith direct your life.

  • Our focus doesn't need to be so much on how things are going to happen in our life, but on who is going to make things happen.

  • Trusting in Christ is not our ticket to live how we want, it’s our call to live how he leads.

  • Jesus gave us His Spirit in order to strengthen us to live by faith according to his righteousness.

Reflect or meet with someone to discuss:

  • How would you explain a covenant agreement? How do you explain a difference between a covenant and a contract?

  • How did what God did for Abraham affect Abraham's faith?

  • How did Abraham's faith in God propel his obedience to God?

  • How does what God has done for you affected your faith, and how has your faith propelled your obedience to God? How have you seen God work through your obedience?

The Life of Abraham is a seven-part devotional series from Yellow Balloons. His journey is a particularly beautiful mirror of every person’s relationship with God. Struggling to understand, leaning on His promises, trying to do better, and pointing toward the glory of the Divine, Abraham’s life has a lot to teach us about the journey of faith, acceptance, approval, and the courage to continue to partner with our Creator.
