Scriptures used: Colossians 1:15-20; Matthew 7:20-21; Psalms 103:7; Exodus 20:3; Matthew 6:33; Revelation 2:1-4
Passages referenced: Matthew 7:15-23;

  • Choosing to believe in Christ as Savior should lead us to follow Christ as Lord.

  • Our primary purpose is to know and discover his will in regards to where he has placed us and to whom he has placed us, and to live that will out.

  • Jesus is not one of many beautiful things God has created. He is the creating force and purpose behind them all.

  • Because Jesus is first and because Jesus went first, we should put Jesus first in our lives.

  • There is no other deity, no other religious figure that is first before all things and went first to gain your salvation.

  • Jesus is not meant to be just one of many important priorities in your life. He is meant to be first and foremost in your life.

  • God doesn’t want your religion, He wants your surrender.

  • We have to push ourselves from wanting to just see the acts of God to a place where we know the heart of God.

  • “Let us give up our work, our thoughts, our plans, ourselves, our lives, our loved ones, our influence, our all, right into His hand, and then, when we have given all over to Him, there will be nothing left for us to trouble about, or to make trouble about.” Hudson Taylor

  • Our activities for Christ should not suppress our intimacy with Christ. If they do, then rather than them being rooted in a relationship, they will just become a performance.

Reflect or meet with someone to discuss:

  • How would you define being a follower of Christ?

  • What do you believe it means to seek first the kingdom of God?

  • In what ways do you strive to put God first in your life?

  • Do you ever find yourself compartmentalizing your life and seeing your relationship with God as just a compartment rather than the central figure? How can you change that?
