Summer Reading Week 5

Sharable notes for the August 14, 2022 message. You can post these notes on your social platform!

Scriptures used: James 4:1-17; 2 Corinthians 5:11-21
Passages referenced: Genesis 37-50; 2 Corinthians 5:1-10

  • “We give glory to people too cheaply. We are impressed with way too little. We say humankind can accomplish amazing things, but that’s only compared with other humans…If you’re going to give your praise and glory to someone, raise the bar for what impresses you and give glory to the only one deserving it: God!…If we don’t right-size our thinking, we will do what our culture does: wrong-size what is significant in life. We live in a culture that tends to supersize earthly things and downsize eternal things.” Kevin Myers

  • Our life is not about doing something to obtain glory, but doing something for His glory.

  • Scripture is not about self-help, it’s about self-denial and giving yourself for the glory of God.

  • You are not just a consumer of God’s love, you are a carrier of God’s love.

  • You cannot hate people and reach them with the love of God at the same time. You cannot be prideful and draw people unto Him.

  • Because we have been changed we selflessly serve.

  • “As you are going” make disciples. In your every day life, in your every day relationships, in your every day encounters and interactions - carry the gospel.

  • The church is a place that every area of life comes together as one to be equipped and encouraged to go out for the one who changed our life.

  • The ministry of reconciliation isn’t confined to the walls of the church. Your spot on the map every day is your mission.

  • Live your life in love with God, loving who you are in Him, loving others as He’s called us to, and loving what you do for His glory.

Reflect or meet with someone to discuss:

  • Do you have a story you love to tell from your "glory days?" If you're younger, what do you picture your story being?

  • Why do you think we love to tell those kind of stories?

  • Have you ever found yourself "supersizing earthly things and downsizing eternal things?" Why do you think we do that?

  • How can you serve God for His glory? Where are your every day spots on the map that you can serve His mission of reconciliation?
