The Resurrection Is the Foundation of Our Faith
Paul makes it clear that the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus are of “most importance.” Everything about our faith centers on the reality that Jesus died and rose again.
Christianity is not simply about following the teachings of a good man.
Paul points to the empty tomb and the many eyewitnesses who encountered Jesus after His resurrection.
If Christ Didn’t Rise, Our Faith Means Nothing
If Jesus never rose:
The apostles would be liars.
Jesus' death would have accomplished nothing.
Our hope would be misplaced.
The sacrifices made for the gospel would be pointless.
Because He rose, our faith has a foundation, our hope has a future, and our lives have purpose.
Jesus Redeems the Whole Person
The Corinthians had been influenced by the idea that the physical body was bad and only the spirit mattered.
Paul presents a different picture: God doesn't simply rescue our spirits from our bodies. God is redeeming the whole person.
Because Christ was raised, those who belong to Him will also experience resurrection and new life.
Our Future Is a New Body
Paul compares our present bodies to a seed. What is planted doesn't look like what eventually grows.
In the same way, our resurrected bodies will be transformed. We don't know every detail of what that will look like, but Christ's resurrected body gives us a picture of what is to come.
The Resurrection Gives Us Hope in Suffering
Death can feel permanent. Pain can feel overwhelming.
But because Jesus rose:
Death doesn't have the final word.
Our suffering isn't the end of the story.
Eternity with Christ gives us a hope that is greater than our present circumstances.
What feels like an ending can actually be the doorway into a new reality.
The Resurrection Should Change How We Live Now
The resurrection isn't only about what happens after we die. It changes how we live today.
Paul's own life is an example for us. He went from persecuting the church to proclaiming the gospel. He recognized that his life had been changed by the grace of God.
Because Jesus gave His life for us, our response should be to give our lives to Him.
Live for Christ Because Your Life Isn't Pointless
“Be strong and immovable. Always work enthusiastically for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless.” — 1 Corinthians 15:58
The resurrection means your faithfulness matters. Your obedience matters. Your service matters. Your sacrifice matters. It isn't pointless.
The Bottom Line
Because Jesus is alive, we have eternal hope and a purpose worth living for today.
Personal Application & Reflection
The resurrection forces us to ask an important question: If Jesus really died and rose again for me, how should that change the way I live?
Am I living primarily for Christ, or have I placed something else at the center of my life?
