Shape Up Week 4

Sharable notes for the January 29, 2023 message. You can post these notes on your social platform!

Scriptures used: Mark 1:35-39; Psalms 46:10
Passages referenced: Mark 6:46; John 6:15; Luke 3:23; Isaiah 26:3

  • If Jesus found strength in private solitude with times of prayer focusing on his father, should this not be a valuable lesson to us as well?

  • Solitude and silence are key to growing into the likeness of Jesus.

  • Our problem may be that we try and relax, when we should stop trying and relax.

  • Be still, open God's word, and listen to Him speak to you.

  • We too often listen to the pull of those around us, but ignore the most important voice in our life.

  • Your time in chosen solitude and silence before the Father will prepare you for the lonely moments that the enemy tries to attack your mind.

Reflect or meet with someone to discuss:

  • Read Mark 6:30-31. Why do you think Jesus encouraged the disciples to get away to a quiet place?

  • How often do you get away from your work, from everything that pulls at you? When you get away, what is the goal?

  • Does silence make you uncomfortable? Why do you think we are afraid of silence?

  • How can being silent and reflecting on God's word help you grow in your spiritual walk?
