Scriptures used: Revelation 3:14-22; Revelation 7:14; Colossians 1:18-20

  • If Jesus says that there is something that makes Him sick enough to vomit, we should probably pay attention to what that is.

  • If we are a follower of Christ, there must be something about us that stands out and makes us different from the culture around us.

  • Earthly riches can't fix a broken soul.

  • Our faith cannot be in our own ability to obtain. Our faith must be in God as our provider.

  • Our lives should shout the worthiness of God!

  • "If today's church does not recapture the sacrificial spirit of the early church, it will lose its authenticity, forfeit the loyalty of millions, and be dismissed as an irrelevant social club with no meaning for the twentieth century." Martin Luther King Jr.

  • We may be lukewarm in our faith if:

We crave acceptance from people more than God.

    We rarely share our faith.

    We rationalize our sin.

We value life on Earth more than eternity in Heaven.

We only turn to God if we need something.

We only give when it's convenient.

We're not much different from the culture we live in.

  • "We don't hate sin; we hate the thought of going to hell." Francis Chan

Reflect:

  • As a follower of Christ, have I simply tried to infuse faith into my life, or have I given everything over to Christ?

  • In what ways have I allowed the culture to infuse my faith and walk with Christ?

  • Are there any of the characteristics of a lukewarm Christian mentioned in the message that may be evident in my life?

We often find ourselves caught up in the culture of this age and trusting too much in money, material things, status, and sex. The thing is, trust like that leads to misery and isolation and death. But turning, and trusting God instead, leads to joy and connection and life. (Note: This plan is geared toward men, but can be applied to anyone.)
