Her Story Week 1

Sharable notes for the May 7, 2023 message. You can post these notes on your social platform!

Scriptures used: Joshua 2; James 2:25-26; Matthew 1:1-6; John 6:29

  • Put yourself in a place that positions your faith in God instead of a place that positions your faith in your own abilities. Your story will pivot when you have more faith in God than yourself.

  • God does not use unholy acts to fulfill his will. He uses imperfect people, but that demonstrates the power of his grace.

  • God will use the most unlikely people in the most unlikely places when they make a choice to put their trust in Him.

  • Our actions should be a result of our beliefs. Our faith is shown genuine by our works.

  • It's our choice in life to stay guarded doing our own thing, or to choose to be a part of God's work, letting God move through us. We don't get to be a part of God's move because we deserve to be. We get to be a part of God's move when we make ourselves available to God.

  • When you are connected to Christ, you are known by God for your purpose not your past.

  • There are no walls thick enough to keep the love of God out.

  • When you receive the promise of God's pardon there is no chaos of life that can rob you of the peace that comes from hope in the promise of his eternal prize.

  • When you are freed from a life of sin and death you can’t help but be married to praise, and you will see your purpose be bigger than your past.

Reflect or meet with someone to discuss:

  • What about the story of Rahab in Joshua 2 stands out to you?

  • Why do you think Rahab chose to protect the spies instead of turning them into the leaders of Jericho?

  • In what ways have you made yourself vulnerable in order for God to work through you?

  • In what ways do you see God using you to bless others around you? In what ways do you hope to see God use you?

Rahab the Harlot was bad for a season, but not forever. In this fresh look at the woman of ill repute, adapted from Liz Curtis Higgs’ Bad Girls of the Bible, we can glean insights into how God can transform our faith and trust into salvation from the past, from shame, and even from death.
