Authentic Christianity Week 2

Sharable notes for the October 29, 2023 message. You can post these notes on your social platform!

Scriptures used: Philippians 2:3-8; John 13:1-17; 1 Peter 4:10; Psalms 92:12-13

  • It’s our inability to take our eyes off ourselves and our needs and our desires that hurts us.

  • It’s only in Christ that you have the satisfaction and the security that enables you to take your eyes off of yourself and put them on others.

  • Life is bigger than only what you can get for yourself. Life will have more meaning if life is bigger than you.

  • If you settle for the glory you get from others, then you’ll miss out on the glory God wants to give you.

  • As Christ followers, we are 100% responsible to have the attitude of Christ, but at the same time we are 100% dependent on the supernatural work of the indwelling Holy Spirit in our life.

  • When our mode of expression is that of a servant, putting others ahead of ourselves, then we express the glory of God to those around us.

  • We become satisfied with wanting to be pleased, but it pleases God when we allow Him to work through us to point others to him.

  • Every time we serve it's an opportunity:
    to be like Christ.
    to put others before myself.
to express the glory of God.

  • We don't have to serve, we get to serve!

  • There is a massive difference between going to church and being a part of a movement and mission.

Reflect or meet with someone to discuss:

  • Read Philippians 2:3-8. What does it mean to have the same attitude as Christ Jesus?

  • How might your will and God's will for your life differ?

  • Read John 13:1-17. What stands out to you from Jesus' washing of the disciples feet?

  • What ways do you try to carry the heart of a servant in your every day life?

  • In what ways do you have specifically scheduled opportunities to serve? How can you can create more opportunities for those?

Near the end of his life, John was the last of the living apostles and wrote a story about Jesus. It’s his testimony of who Jesus is, what he said, what he did, and who he claimed to be. Jesus has a story. He invites us to make it our story. When we make Jesus’s story our story, we have life in his name. This plan focuses on John 13 and Jesus serving his disciples in the Upper Room. It is part of an ongoing series through John.
