August 2017 Kid's Church

bwccamden

God is the all-powerful, Creator of the universe. There is no one else who has the position or power of God. We can’t help but respond to Him with respect. When it comes to people, everyone is important for two reasons: God made them in His image and Jesus died for them. That’s why respect is also a reflection of the character of Christ in us. When we see people like Jesus sees them, we can show everyone they matter to God.

We want to help with this. That's why this month we are learning in Kid's church about respect: showing others they are important by what you say and do. Below you'll discover what we're talking about each week, and you'll also see a few downloadable resources that you can use to help continue the conversation at home with your kids!

Wow! God made everything, and it is wonderful! That’s what we’re teaching our preschoolers this month.

We want them to look out the window, walk through the park, and look in the mirror and say “WOW! God made that, and it is wonderful.”

We will look at a different aspect of the Creation Story each week and invite our preschoolers to see the wonder of it all. Then, we’ll thank God, the Creator, for making everything we see. What an awesome God He is. Wow!

Just as God created our children in His own unique way, He too created us as parents. Our children pick up on more than we realize, so it’s important we don’t lose sight of our own unique gifts. The more we demonstrate love for others the more our children will feel confident to put their own gifts to work. God created us to love others, so find a way this month to let His light shine through you.

We want to help with this. That's why this month we are learning in Kid's church about uniqueness: discovering who God made you to be so you can make a difference. Below you'll discover what we're talking about each week, and you'll also see a few downloadable resources that you can use to help continue the conversation at home with your kids!

June 2017 Kid's Church

Our children will learn to embrace the way God made them by watching how we, as parents, handle the gifts God has given us. The comparison trap we fall into amongst our peers is just as real for our children as it is for us adults. Living in a constant state of comparison is poisonous and can keep us from truly seeing ourselves as God sees us. If you struggle with this, take a personality assessment to rediscover your strengths and celebrate them. God created each of us with a specific purpose in mind and when we embrace the way we are made, our children will learn to do the same!

We want to help with this. That's why this month we are learning in Kid's church about creativity: imagining what you could do because you were made in God's image. Below you'll discover what we're talking about each week, and you'll also see a few downloadable resources that you can use to help continue the conversation at home with your kids!

JUNE PREVIEW

JULY PREVIEW

Over the next nine weeks, your child will be learning about kids in the Bible who rocked. Or, in other words, kids In the Bible who did what God wanted them to do. We believe that kids who do what God wants them to do totally rock! This summer, your child will hear about how people in the Bible did amazing things when they were still kids!

You do so much as a parent to help your child develop the skills they will need to become a successful adult. You help them learn new information, master new skills, and make new friends. How about we add doing what God wants them to do to that list? No matter how young or old a person is, they can do what God wants them to do. We think that is what makes you and your child ROCK!

The best way for your child to learn to do what God wants them to do is by watching you, their parent, do what God wants you do. Yes, you have that much influence on your child. Hey, when you rock, your child rocks! Take some time this summer to think about what God wants you to do and then make it a goal to do it. Help a neighbor? Be brave? Share what you have? When your child sees you doing what God wants you to do, it will help them do what God wants them to do. THAT totally rocks!

We want to offer you ways to help your children remember that Jesus is God's Son. Here's what we'll be talking about each week:

  • June 4 - Mary and Joseph nd 12-year-old Jesus sitting in the temple and talking with the religious leaders. Luke 2:41-50
  • June 11 - The boy Samuel learns to listen when God speaks to him. 1 Samuel 3:1-10, 19
  • June 18 - Samuel anoints David, the youngest of Jesse’s sons, to be the next king of Israel. 1 Samuel 16:1-13
  • June 25 - The young boy David volunteers to battle Goliath and defeats him with a sling and ve smooth stones. 1 Samuel 17:1-50
  • July 2 - Young Daniel and his three friends ask to only eat vegetables and drink water when in training with King Nebuchadnezzar because they want to honor God. Daniel 1
  • July 9 - Young Miriam watches her baby brother Moses after their mom puts him in a basket and hides him in the reeds on the bank of the Nile River. Exodus 1:22-2:10
  • July 16 - Josiah becomes king at just eight years old and leads the people to do what God wants them to. 2 Chronicles 34
  • July 23 - Jesus uses a young boy’s lunch to perform a miracle and feed over 5000 people. John 6:1-13

May 2017 Kid's Church

We all want our children to show determination and never give up, but at times it can be difficult to sit back and watch them learn this on their own. In an effort to keep things moving, at times, we can do too much for our children. It’s easy to justify it in the moment because we are faster and we let convenience dictate our actions. Ultimately though, sowing opportunities for determination now will reap a beautiful harvest as they grow older. Allow your child to feel the tension when something doesn’t come easy and encourage them to push through it this month. Let’s show them that with God’s help they can tackle anything and finish what they have started!

We want to help with this. That's why this month we are learning in Kid's church about determination: deciding it's worth it to finish what you started. Below you'll discover what we're talking about each week, and you'll also see a few downloadable resources that you can use to help continue the conversation at home with your kids!

  • May 7 - Peter and John Before the Sanhedrin: Keep going even when it gets hard. Acts 3 & 4

  • May 21 - Armor of God: God gives you what you need to keep going. Ephesians 6:10-18

This month, your child is learning that God’s got it. God is always with me. God hears me and gives me what I need. God teaches me the way to go. God protects me. Aren’t those amazing things for those little ears to hear?

How about those of us with our grown-up ears and our grown-up issues and our grown-up stress? Do we need to hear those things too? Just so you know: God’s got it for you too. He does. God is with you in the midst of your struggle, and He celebrates with you in your joy. God is there with you through thick and through thin. So, take a minute to talk to Him. Take a minute to share your burden and to invite God into your mess. God’s got it.

We want to offer you ways to help your children remember that Jesus is God's Son. Here's what we'll be talking about each week:

April 2017 Kid's Church

bwccamden

As a parent, it can feel like all day, every day is a lesson in putting our kids first. And most of the time we do it with little to no recognition. But humility isn’t just about the serving. It’s about the attitude behind it and love that motivates it. This month, work on going above and beyond to do things for your children with a humble heart—and not a tired, reluctant or frustrated one. As the most powerful people in the house, we have the opportunity to set the tone for what serving others in humility looks like. Because our kids are more than just the recipients of our humility, they are observers of it, and taking cues on how to do it themselves.

We want to help with this. That's why this month we are learning in Kid's church about humility: putting others first by giving up what you think you deserve. Below you'll discover what we're talking about each week, and you'll also see a few downloadable resources that you can use to help continue the conversation at home with your kids. We hope you find this helpful!

  • April 2 - Jesus Washes the Disciples' Feet: I can put others first by serving them. John 13:1-17
  • April 9 - Jesus Praying in the Garden: I can put others first by letting go of what I want. Matthew 26:36-56
  • April 16 - Jesus is Crucified, Buried and Resurrected: I can put others first because Jesus put me first. John 18:12-20:23
  • April 23 - The Great Commission and Ascension: I can put others first by doing what Jesus said. Matthew 28:16-20
  • April 30 - Humility of Jesus: Put others first. Philippians 12:3-8

This month, our preschoolers are learning that Jesus is the best! Watch this video and then take a look below at each week and the specific story your child will hear. As you scroll, you'll also see a few downloadable resources that you can use to help continue the conversation at home with your kids.

“J-E-S-U-S! We love Jesus. He’s the best!” That’s what your child will be hearing this month. Jesus is the BEST. He is. Thousands of years ago, Jesus died for each and every one of us. That means He died for you, too. In the midst of all the fun that revolves around Easter, try to take some time to read the Easter story. I’m not talking about the board book version you read to your child (although that is a good one). I mean opening your Bible to Matthew 26 and reading through Matthew 28. Dive into the Word and read about how much Jesus loves you.

Jesus loves you, He died for you, He came back just like He said He would, AND He wants to be your friend forever. He wants to be your friend and your child’s friend. That’s what we’re celebrating this month. That’s why we’ll be chanting all month long: “J-E-S-U-S! We love Jesus. He’s the best!”

We want to offer you ways to help your children remember that Jesus is God's Son. Here's what we'll be talking about each week:

  • April 2 - Jesus demonstrates how to serve one another by washing the disciples' feet. Luke 13:3-17
  • April 9 - The people praise Jesus while spreading their coats and palm branches on the road as He enters Jerusalem for the Passover. Matthew 21:1-16
  • April 16 - Jesus has the Last Supper with the disciples, later dies on a cross and is buried in a tomb. Three days later, Jesus comes back, just like He promised! Matthew 26:20-30; 27:40-50; 28:1-7
  • April 23 - Jesus tells Peter that He will use him to build the Church and it will do great things. Matthew 16:17-18
  • April 30 - Jesus tells His disciples to go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them and teaching them everything He has commanded them. Matthew 28:19-20

March 2017 Kid's Church

bwccamden

We all know what it’s like to repeat ourselves over and over when kids or people aren’t listening....We all know what it’s like to repeat ourselves over and over when kids or people aren’t listening. (See what we did there? 😉 ) But one saying that never gets old to hear repeatedly is, “you’re forgiven. God asks us to offer never-ending forgiveness because that’s what He’s done for us. And offering forgiveness takes practice. It can be hard to offer forgiveness at the end of a long day or after a fight, but when we don’t forgive we can miss out on what God has ready for us. Challenge yourself and your children to be eager to forgive.

We want to help with that. That's why this month we are learning in Kid's church about forgiveness: deciding that someone who has wronged you doesn't have to pay. Below you'll discover what we're talking about each week, and you'll also see a few downloadable resources that you can use to help continue the conversation at home with your kids. We hope you find this helpful!

  • March 5 - The Lost Sheep: God forgives you. Luke 15:1-7
  • March 12 - Lost Son: Everyone needs to be forgiven, even me. Luke 15:11-24
  • March 19 - Older Brother: When you don't forgive, you miss out. Luke 15:21-32

This month, our preschoolers are learning we can love like Jesus. Watch this video and then take a look below at each week and the specific story your child will hear. As you scroll, you'll also see a few downloadable resources that you can use to help continue the conversation at home with your kids.

“Love one another.” That’s what the Bible tells us to do. That’s what Jesus tells us to do. It sounds easy, and it is…when it comes to those whom you already love. But, Jesus wasn’t just talking about your spouse and your kids. He was talking about everyone. That’s right. Jesus loves everyone, and He wants us to show His love to them too.

Loving one another means stopping to help even when others are ignoring the need. It means loving whether you have a little or a lot to give. It means loving a person even if he has wronged you in the past. Sometimes loving one another is easy, and sometimes it’s hard. However, it’s always worth it. Because when we love one another we are showing each other the love of Jesus. And that is what He’s asked us to do!

We want to offer you ways to help your children remember that Jesus is God's Son. Here's what we'll be talking about each week:

  • March 5 - Jesus tells a story about a Samaritan man who stops to care for a stranger that was beaten and robbed. Luke 10:25-37
  • March 12 - A man has a good crop that produces so much food that he builds bigger barns to hold it rather than sharing it with people in need. Luke 12:16-21
  • March 19 - A poor widow gives everything she has to the temple offering. Mark 12:41-44
  • March 26 - A son takes his inheritance from his dad and wastes it all. When he returns broke, dirty, and hungry, the father forgives him and loves him no matter what. Luke 15:11-24

February 2017 Kid's Church

As parents, we all feel the burden to raise our children to be kind and loving. Sometimes we wonder if we’re doing enough—if our kids are getting the message. The best way to teach your child is by modeling. That’s right, you’ve got to practice what you preach. Is there someone in your family, friend-group, or community who is lonely, hurting, or struggling? Make a list of 4 ways you can show love to this person this month. You could bake them cupcakes, leave them a note, or simply send them an encouraging text message. This month, once a week, demonstrate the love of Christ to your family by loving others.

Also during this month, keep reminding your child of what they are learning in Kid's church about love: choosing to treat others they way you want to be treated. Below you'll discover what we're talking about each week, and you'll also see a few downloadable resources that you can use to help continue the conversation at home with your kids. We hope you find this helpful!

  • February 5 - No Greater Love: Love others because Jesus loves you. John 15:12-13
  • February 12 - Jesus Calms the Storm: Comfort others who are hurting.. Mark 4:35-41
  • February 19 - Jesus Feeds 5000: Give to others who are in need. Mark 6:30-44
  • February 26 - The Good Samaritan: Love others because they matter to God. Luke 10:27-37

This month, our preschoolers are learning Jesus loves them. Watch this video and then take a look below at each week and the specific story your child will hear. As you scroll, you'll also see a few downloadable resources that you can use to help continue the conversation at home with your kids.

The month of candy hearts and oversized stuffed bears has arrived. It’s the month we set aside each year to celebrate our love for those we hold near and dear. And what says “I love you” better than a box of chocolates or cards that play music when you open them?

As thoughtful as these things are, Jesus has a few different ways of showing us how much He loves us. Jesus shows His love for us by simply wanting to spend time with us. Jesus wants us to come to Him – anytime, anywhere – just come. Jesus shows He loves us by helping us. And, Jesus loves us no matter what.

Spend some time in God’s Word this month reading the stories of Jesus’ love for us. Start in Luke 7 and read how Jesus showered His love on those that surrounded Him. Then, jump to Luke 10:38 and see how Jesus loved His friends Mary and Martha and wanted to spend time with them. Jesus wants to be with you too. Sit with Him and feel the warmth and power of His love for you. It’s SO BIG!

We want to offer you ways to help your children remember that Jesus is God's Son. Here's what we'll be talking about each week:

  • February 5 - Jesus visits Mary and Martha because He wants to spend time with them. Luke 10:38-42
  • February 12 - Jesus calls the children to come to Him when the disciples try to make them go away. Luke 18:15-16
  • February 19 - Jesus helps a centurion when he asks for it. Matthew 8:5-13
  • February 26 - A woman shows great love for Jesus because He loves her and forgives her. Luke 7:36-50

It can be hard getting back into the swing of homework and school projects after a long break. And with all of that, plus the endless “Why??” questions, learning something new is all you feel like your child is doing these days! But here’s the good news: you don’t have to give your child all the answers! In fact, it’s better if you take a break and have them discover the answers for themselves. Next time your child asks how a TV works or what the moon is really made of, encourage them to research the answer online or in a book at your local library and report back to you about what they discovered.

That's why this month we're talking about knowledge: learning something new so you can be better at whatever you do. Below you'll discover what we're talking about each week, and you'll also see a few downloadable resources that you can use to help continue the conversation at home with your kids. We hope you find this helpful!

  • January 1 - Wise Men Discover Jesus: Discovering what God says helps you know Jesus. Matthew 2
  • January 8 - Boy Jesus at the Temple: What God says is the most important thing to know. Luke 2:41-52
  • January 15 - Jesus' Baptism & John Calls Jesus the Lamb of God: Discovering what God says helps you follow Jesus. John 1:19-42
  • January 22 - Jesus Tempted in the Wilderness: Discovering what God says helps you make the wise choice. Luke 4:1-13
  • January 29 - John the Baptist in Prison: When you don't know what God says, ask. Matthew 11

It’s a new year. It’s a time to refocus our energy. It’s a time to look inward and reflect on the past and look forward to dream of the future. Do you know one person who will show up as you think about your past? Jesus. He was there. He was there when you changed jobs. He was there when you became a parent. He was there when you thought you needed Him and when you thought you didn’t. Jesus was there—ALL THE TIME.

As you look to the future, know that Jesus will be there too. He will be there when someone gets sick. He will be there when you move. He will be there when you get a new job. Jesus is the there when you need Him. And, you will always need Him.

Spend some time with Jesus this month. Open your Bible to Mark 2 and read how Jesus was there for a man who needed Him. Then, flip to Mark 3 and read how He was there for another. In Mark 4, He was there again. Throughout the Gospels, Jesus is there for people who need Him. He will be there for you too. Just ask.

We want to offer you ways to help your children remember that Jesus is God's Son. Here's what we'll be talking about each week:

  • January 1 - Jesus heals a blind man, showing that He has the power to help. John 9:1-7
  • January 8 - Four men carry their disabled friend to Jesus because He has the power to help him.  Mark 2:1-12
  • January 15 - People bring a deaf man who can barely talk to Jesus, and He heals him. Mark 7:32-37
  • January 22 - Ten lepers ask Jesus to heal them, and He does. Luke 17:11-19
  • January 29 - Jesus calms a storm when the disciples are afraid. Matthew 8:23-27

December 2016 Kid's Church

Isn’t it crazy that sometimes the season of peace and joy is the least peaceful and joyful for all the grown ups? This month, set the tone of joy in your home by playing joyful music, lighting mood-lifting candles, taking an extra minute to pray quietly, and take deep breaths throughout the day, or whatever helps you remember the joy of the season. Participating in this month’s MorningTime (found in the Parent Cue) with your kids is also a great way to model joy for your family. Take it a step further by discussing, as a family, how the pieces of joy from your container helped to change your attitude throughout the day. Because we all know, when the grown ups aren’t happy, nobody's happy!

Below you'll discover what we're talking about each week, and you'll also see a few downloadable resources that you can use to help continue the conversation at home with your kids. We hope you find this helpful!

  • December 4 - God Promises a Savior: I can have joy because God keeps His promises. Isaiah 9:6-7
  • December 11 - Zechariah and Elizabeth: I can have joy because anything is possible with God. Luke 1:5-25, 57-79
  • December 18 - Jesus is Born: I can have joy because God sent His Son. Luke 2:1-7
  • December 24 - Shepherds and Angels: I can have joy because God's story is for everyone. Luke 2:8-20

December 2016 Preschool

This month, our preschoolers are learning Jesus is God's Son. They are learning that the meaning behind Christmas is the joy of God's son Jesus and the joy he brings to us and our familes. Watch this video and then take a look below at each week and the specific story your child will hear. As you scroll, you'll also see a few downloadable resources that you can use to help continue the conversation at home with your kids.

Have you started Christmas traditions with your little one? Sure, there are the traditions that you did when you were little, but what traditions are you creating with your children? You could read a different Christmas story every night. Or, choose a different Christmas movie to watch each Friday of December. Maybe you want to be sure to bake Christmas cookies for the neighbors every year. Many choose to read the story of Jesus’ birth from Luke 2 on Christmas Eve. There are a multitude of ideas, but only you can pick the ones that are best for your family.

Whatever you choose to do together, know that you are creating memories that will live in your child’s heart forever. Family and Jesus, now that’s what Christmas is all about.

We want to offer you ways to help your children remember that Jesus is God's Son. Here's what we'll be talking about each week:

  • December 4 - God sends an angel to tell Mary she will give birth to His Son and His name will be Jesus. Luke 1:26-33, 38, 46
  • December 11 - Mary gives birth to Jesus in a stable  Luke 2:1-7
  • December 18 - Angels go to the shepherds, while they are watching their sheep in the fields at night, and announce the birth of Jesus, God's son. Luke 2:6-18
  • December 24 - Review of the Christmas story. Luke 1:26-33, 38, 46; 2:-18
